“Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.”

This piece was created to explore that contrast, a difference in fear that exists quietly but profoundly within society.

Men are often taught to fear humiliation. To fear rejection. To fear being laughed at, diminished, or made to feel small. That fear can shape behaviour, identity, and self-worth, but it exists largely within the realm of perception and social consequence.

For women, fear exists differently.

It is not just emotional or social. It is physical. It is immediate. It is rooted in the awareness that rejection, saying no, or simply existing can carry the risk of real harm.

This piece splits those realities.

On one side, the figure is surrounded by voices. Laughter that is overwhelming, consuming, and relentless. It represents the internalisation of judgment, the pressure of perception, and the weight of being seen and evaluated.

On the other side, the tone shifts.
