Dark Side Of Addiction

This piece is my representation of addiction.

At the center is a human figure but they are not alone. Wrapped tightly around them is a demon like presence, grinning and fused into their space as if it has always been there. Its arms coil around the body not in protection but in possession. It doesn’t need to attack it already has control.

The demon represents addiction as something external that becomes internal over time. At first it feels separate something you encounter, something you choose but eventually it wraps itself around you so completely that the boundary disappears. You can’t tell where you end and it begins.

Its expression is key, a wide, distorted grin that suggests satisfaction and even pleasure. It reflects the false promise of addiction, the idea that it gives you something, when in reality it only takes. The hollow eyes show there’s no real life behind it, just instinct, hunger and repetition.

The human figure beneath it appears passive, almost resigned. There’s no clear resistance in the posture, which speaks to a deeper stage of addiction not the fight but the surrender. The body is still there but the control has shifted. The person is being held in place, guided and consumed.

Behind them, the cracked clock reinforces the idea of time being distorted and broken. The exposed gears echo the mechanical nature of addiction the routines, the habits, the cycles that keep turning no matter how much damage is done. It suggests that once caught the pattern repeats endlessly.

This piece presents addiction not as a single moment but as a relationship one where the demon doesn’t just haunt the person it lives through them. Wrapped together, inseparable, locked in a cycle that feeds itself.
