This piece was created from a place of quiet observation and deep respect for a kind of pain that often goes unseen, misunderstood, or dismissed chronic pain that lives in the body every single day.

Osteoarthritis is often spoken about in simplified terms, reduced to something people assume only belongs to a certain stage of life. But the reality is far more complex. This condition does not discriminate in the way people think it does. It can affect individuals across different ages, and for many, it becomes a part of life far earlier than expected. That misunderstanding is part of what inspired this work.

I wanted to capture not just the physical reality of osteoarthritis, but the lived experience of it.

The hands in this piece are not just hands they are a reflection of endurance. They carry tension, strain, and resistance in every line. The distortion is intentional. It’s not about exaggeration, but about translating sensation into form the stiffness, the pressure, the feeling of joints that don’t move freely, of a body that can feel at odds with itself.
